The Mission of Friends of Youth and Nature

FOYAN promotes, supports and facilitates opportunities for youth and families
to go outside to explore and embrace nature, experience new outdoor activities,
and engage in natural resource stewardship projects.

Our mission is to ensure every child in Western Colorado has the opportunity to grow into a resilient, confident, and healthy individual—supported by meaningful outdoor experiences that spark curiosity, build skills, and foster a lifelong love of nature. We believe that time in nature changes lives. It promotes physical health, mental well-being, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging—all essential ingredients for strong, thriving kids and communities.

Our vision is to have all youth in Western Colorado develop into resilient, confident, and healthy individuals through access to the outdoors. Through these experiences, they will grow an appreciation for our natural world, fostering a desire to act as stewards of our world in order to provide the same opportunities for future generations

Our mission is to remove the barriers for Western Slope youth to participate in nature experiences that build resilience and foster a sense of stewardship.

Our goals are to support Western Slope youth to access nature experiences that a) support mental health and build resilience, and b) foster a sense of stewardship.

Through sustainable practices, we use whatever means we have at our disposal to connect youth to the healing powers of nature and develop future stewards of our world.
FOYAN encourages diversity, equity, and inclusivity in all FOYAN services, and through our partner organizations, as stated and adopted in our bylaws on September 18, 2018: The purpose of this organization is to ensure that access to nature and public lands remains available to everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, economic status, or any other real or perceived impediment.
