Here is a list of our accomplishments from 2018 through 2019.
FOYAN has Increased the number of youth reached through outdoor programs from 830 in 2018, to over 3,000 in 2019.
Youth scholarships provided to Families Plus allowed 8 under-served youth to attend summer outdoor education programs, provided bus transportation for 800 youth to attend winter ecology and summer youth programs at the Nature Connection (through the West Elk Community Foundation grant awarded in 2018), and provided 20 scholarships to Mesa County youth for cross-country ski gear and lessons through Odin Recreation.
2,200 K-5 youth impacted from Delta County's School District Farm to School program.
FOYAN funding assisted with acquisition of materials and implementation of conservation education curriculum. Over 500 youth from Montrose, Mesa and Delta Counties were engaged in nature through activities and scholarships.
FOYAN attendance as a Generation Wild representative enabled outreach at multiple youth outdoor programs and events. FOYAN staff submit monthly stories focused on getting youth outdoors to local papers
FOYAN board was instrumental in assisting with the planning and logistics of North Fork Rural Philanthropy Day.
Rural Philanthropy Day was hosted by the Community Resource Center and the Anshutz Family Foundation. This event was organized to help local rural non-profits connect to public and private Colorado funders. The event hosted over 400 attendees from all over Colorado. Received $5,580 from the Western Colorado Community Foundation for the Delta County School District Farm to School program.
This program teaches over 2,000 K-5 youth about reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting of cafeteria waste; using compost to improve soil health and water conservation; and learning where our food comes from. FOYAN board attended the Colorado Capacity Building to Advance Non-profits (CAN) conference in July 2019 in our continuing effort to strive towards fiscal development.
This will allow us to maximize our ability to efficiently disperse funds to youth nature programs. The CAN conference was presented in partnership with the Nonprofit Finance Fund and the Colorado Health Foundation, and was focused on unlocking the potential of mission-driven non-profits through capacity building and healthy fiscal development. We are working on putting your generous donations to work getting youth connected to the outdoors in the most effective way possible! FOYAN was represented at the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Educators and Colorado Parks and Wildlife Partner Conference.
These conferences enabled FOYAN staff to pursue various funding opportunities. assisted with educator development opportunities, Foyan provided a scholarship for a teacher to attend the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Educators Conference (CAEE) in partnership with CAEE.
It is important to the FOYAN board to enable educators with opportunities to develop expertise in environmental education. Added a Mesa County board member to help with representation—welcome, Abram!
Web development continues. The FOYAN website will be a one stop resource for youth, teachers and families in Delta, Mesa, and Montrose Counties.
Our website helps to link providers of outdoor programs to our youth and their families, and provides teaching resources for educators and youth leaders. |
