WHAT WE DO FOR YOUTH!
A FREE GEAR LIBRARY!
Camping gear, snowshoes, cross-country ski equipment and a fleet of mountain bikes are available for youth in Montrose, Delta, and Ouray counties. This library aims to provide equal access to outdoor experiences for families who cannot afford gear. Youth from Partners and Families Plus get a lesson from Montrose Recreation folks on braking/shifting mt bikes at Ridgway State Park.
TOGETHER FOR RESILIENT YOUTH (TRY)!
We work with partners to give under-served youth opportunities to be active outdoors by providing equipment, transportation and mentors/instructors for outdoor activities. We facilitate TRY with a coalition of youth organizations: Families Plus, Partners, CASA7JD, Haven House for the Homeless, Black Canyon Boys and Girls Club, and Hilltop Family Services. Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Montrose Recreation District, and others help us provide bi-monthly events for these youth to experience outdoor activities and create a bond with nature. NATURE LEARNING EVENTS! Nature is amazing! We want to bring the magic of it to our youth through hands-on interactions with natural resource specialist and explorations on our public lands. A Forest Service wildlife biologist explains adaptations owls have for flying at night. Change the way you think of the forest!
